Immigration
Our Mission: to educate the community about immigration issues and advocate for systemic change that will improve the lives of Immigrants.
2024 Task Force Efforts:
- Building a relationship with the Kenosha County Sheriff with the goal of creating immigrant friendly policies;
- Meeting with the County Emergency Management Coordinator to discuss a plan if an influx of immigrants would come to Kenosha
- Working with the ELCA Outreach Center to develop a local legal immigration services program. Two Task Force members have completed the extensive training program.
Past Efforts include:
- Holding community presentations to educate on what it means to be undocumented and how immigrants benefit our community
- Advocating for driver license legislation in WI through educational presentations and soliciting letters of support from local officials (This has been a long-term effort for many years);
- Creating an immigrant support fund to assist them with basic needs;
- Coordinating and establishing sponsorship teams to resettle three Afghan families in our community;
- Working with our local DA to implement a deferred prosecution program for undocumented drivers ticketed for driving without a license.
- Conducting workshops to assist young immigrants applying DACA and DACA renewals.
