On Tuesday, the Kenosha County Human Services Committee had the chance to make a significant statement by approving a resolution to officially recognize June as Pride Month in Kenosha County. The last time the county embraced this celebration was back in May 2021 — a period that feels distant, especially considering the strides and challenges faced by the LGBTQIA community in recent years. Three CUSH advisors spoke passionately in favor of the resolution along with other community members.
Unfortunately, the committee failed to advance the resolution after supervisors after supervisors Tim Stocker and Erin Decker voted no in a disappointing setback for the LGBTQIA community and those who passionately advocate for equality. After this defeat, CUSH activists remained to communicate their disappointment to the Board, with nearly 30 minutes of citizens comments.
It is vital to remember that no matter what uninformed statements may come from some corners of the political landscape, every individual within our community is valid and worthy of love. Let’s continue to uplift each other and strive for progress, ensuring that love always triumphs over ignorance.
CUSH speakers: Rev. Wesley Isberner (4:34), Analise (10:04), and Arian (18:04)
