We’re certain that you’ve heard about the violence being visited upon the city of Minneapolis… violence that took the life of Renee Good.
This hits home for us. Renee Good died serving in her role as a legal observer, a role very similar to the Verifier role that many of our own CUSH activists serve in, including the author of this letter.
Wide-scale ICE activity has begun to spread from Minneapolis to Eau Claire, entering our state.
Just this past week, our Sheriff announced that they had signed a “287(g)” agreement — a compact which will enable their law enforcement officers to be deputized by ICE, interrogating detainees to ascertain their immigration status.
We understand the fear that this situation is creating.
That’s why we would like to invite you to join us next Sunday, January 25th for a vigil in remembrance of those lost to ICE violence, to take place 5:30 PM at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church.
We want to show that, in a time of terror, our community has the power to make space for peace, remembrance, and solidarity. ICE will not be invited into this community.
We hope you will join us.
